Universal Soldier: Regeneration (also known in some countries as Universal Soldier: A New Beginning) is a 2009 action film and the third theatrically released film in the Universal Soldier film series. As far as the plot goes, it's a direct sequel to the original Universal Soldier from 1992, unrelated to the two non-canon Universal Soldier television sequels that were produced in 1998 and completely ignoring the events from the 1999 retconned sequel Universal Soldier: The Return. Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren both reprise their roles from the first film.
The film was released theatrically in Israel, Phlippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, India, Lebanon, Jordan, Italy, Japan, and Pakistan. It went Direct-To-Video (DVD & Blu-ray) in the rest of the world. The film has received average to mixed reviews, but it has since developed a notable cult following.
Plot Summary
When terrorists threaten nuclear catastrophe, the world's only hope is to reactivate decommissioned Universal Soldier Luc Deveraux. Rearmed and reprogrammed, Deveraux must take on his nemesis from the original Universal Soldier and a next-generation "UniSol".
